SPORTSTRACK > EVENT USE
Participants fitted with SportsTrack can be tracked in real time as they proceed around the event course.
Simply put: the SportsTrack unit acquires GPS location data, stores it into memory before retransmitting that same data in real time via the GPRS mobile phone network – effectively a data call rather than a voice call – to the SportsTrack web servers. The data is then displayed in real time on Google Earth or Microsoft Virtual Earth through an open access section of the SportsTrack website. The exact location of each participant is refreshed to the website every 20, 60 or 120 seconds. This data can then be displayed on Plasma screens around the event course and can be viewed online by friends and family from anywhere in the world.
Make your event a safe event: in emergency mode, a participant can automatically send an pre-drafted emergency text to a
pre-designated mobile number. Event organisers can then call the participant to discuss the problem before calling on the emergency services should that be necessary. At all times, the exact location of the participant is still displayed on the SportsTrack website.
Allow everybody to participate in your event: Friends and family can text through the website or their own mobile phone to each participant wishing them well and encouragement throughout the race.
